Direct answer
On a P2P mesh, a note can hop from A to C through B when A and C cannot reach each other. An empty street is an empty mesh. There is no nationwide coverage without a chain of phones running the same app.
Real benefit
In a concert queue, a bus or a field, a third phone in the path can extend the local note. That matters when 4G is saturated and people are still in the same place.
Real limit
Mesh is not the internet. It does not deliver in another city. Each hop needs another Android with offChat on. Obstacles still shrink every link.
