How offChat works on Android

Install KingFy, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct when available, and talk to nearby phones on the local mesh.

Overview

offChat is the proximity module of the KingFy Android app. Local chat uses the phone radio, not the carrier tower. Both sides therefore need the same app, running and close enough.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct and P2P mesh are not the same. Bluetooth is the short link. Wi-Fi Direct uses the Wi-Fi radio without a router. Mesh appears when a third phone can relay.

Device discovery

The module looks for nearby phones with offChat on. The list depends on Android permissions, radios that are actually on, and obstacles. An empty list does not mean the product “does not work”: a denied permission, distance or the other app being off often explains it.

What still needs the internet

Installing KingFy, creating an account and using other Super App modules may need a network. Nearby chat, once the radios are on, does not need mobile data or venue Wi-Fi.
